
Workington Reds continued their build-up to the new season with a comfortable 5-0 win over a Carlisle United youth team last night.
Apart from the win, the success of the evening was how well the new surroundings at the Fibrus Community Stadium were absorbed.
The pitch was in excellent condition and Reds boss Billy Barr was at pains to personally the thank the ground staff responsible.
Over 1,300 watched the game as Reds fans prepared for a season’s football at the stadium, which will start with a first home game on Tuesday, August 11 against Redcar Athletic.
Workington were 4-0 ahead by half-time, being set on their way by Brennan Dickenson with a fine finish and then helped by two own goals by young defenders Ben Aaron and Alex McDonough.
Luke Hunter and Tom Stephenson also netted as Reds were clear winners and produced some good football on the night, against their young opponents who to their credit worked hard right to the end.
