A free event that is open to anyone who is interested in building their own home in Allerdale is taking place on Thursday 1 November at the SEN Centre at Lakes College.

The event, which is being organised by Allerdale Borough Council, will have a range of speakers and representatives from the self-build and custom house building industry. Beginning at 5pm, the event will offer advice and guidance to those who would like to know more about building their own home, or those who have already started to do so.

Representatives from the Council’s housing policy, planning and building control teams will be in attendance, as well as architects, finance specialists and construction trade businesses, who will be on hand to answer questions on all aspects of the self-build process.

Councillor Carni McCarron-Holmes, Executive member for housing, will be speaking at the event. She said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are considering building their own home, or would just like some information on the subject, to come along and ask those burning questions. It is often a complex and daunting process, so this event will cover all the important areas that need to be taken into account when building a home.”

The event is also open to local businesses in the industry who would like to display their services on an exhibition stand.

For more information or to book your place at the event, please contact the Council’s Housing Development team on 0303 123 1702 or email [email protected].
