A chance meeting with outdoor film-maker Alistair Lee has led to a collaboration which will see the Ambleside campus of the University of Cumbria play host to a series of breathtaking films.
Second year outdoor leadership student Edward Swindley met the director whose work has been featured on National Geographic and Discovery UK while climbing at Hodge Close near Coniston.
The 20-year-old from Silverdale in Lancashire is a keen fan of the films produced by Lee over his 20 year-long career and was delighted when it was agreed the Ambleside campus could host a showcase of films featuring some of the country’s most popular climbers.
Among those shown as part of the Brit Rock Tour will be one focusing on Lake District climber Anna Taylor.
“The aim of the evening is to celebrate the variety of great climbers that are active in the UK but also to help raise money to fund kit and expeditions run by the university’s mountaineering club in Ambleside,” Edward said.
The film show will be held in the Percival Lecture Theatre, Rydal Road, Ambleside on Friday 2 November at 730pm.
Tickets are priced £5 for students and £8 for members of the public.
Alistair Lee said: “We’re looking forward to bringing the Brit Rock Tour to the University of Cumbria at Ambleside to help inspire the next generation of climbers and wish Ed and the climbing club all the best in their fundraising.”
