The date has been set for this year’s Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch-On. The annual sparkling spectacular will be held between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday 18 November.
Local dance groups and school choirs will join celebrity acts at this year’s event, hosted by musical comedian Jonny Awsum.
Jonny Awsum exploded onto the comedy scene with a crowd-pleasing set, performing his special feel-good brand of musical comedy all over the world and becoming a much sought-after live act.
In 2017, Jonny was broadcast to huge acclaim on the nation’s biggest-rating ITV show, Britain’s Got Talent. Performing alongside Ant & Dec, Jonny won a standing ovation from the theatre audience, a unanimous vote of approval from the judges and was seen by 11 million TV viewers. Jonny was broadcast numerous times throughout the series and made it all the way to the Live Semi-Finals. His performances on the show have been viewed more than 30 million times on YouTube.
The Christmas Lights Switch-On event will also be a showcase of local community groups and performers including Belle Vue Primary School, Razzamataz and Carlisle Dance Academy.
The headline celebrity acts will be announced soon.
The star-studded Christmas Lights Switch On stage will be in place in the city centre pedestrianised area, outside the Old Town Hall. Organised by Carlisle City Council, it will provide a packed family entertainment programme, to suit all ages.
The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Jessica Riddle will trigger a brand-new galaxy of Christmas lights in the city centre at 5pm. The Christmas Lights Switch On is part of Carlisle’s countdown to Christmas.
