Keswick Theatre Clubs latest production in the Studio at Theatre by the Lake has a distinctly Christmassy feel to it. Comfort and Joy by Mike Harding runs from 7-10 November and tells the story of a family Christmas reunion.
It’s Christmas, Margaret and Martin have offered to host at this time of peace on earth and goodwill to all men. But things never quite turn out the way you hoped. The long-lost relatives arrive en masse, the batty neighbours drop in for a drink, no one gets the present they wanted and culinary disasters abound. As the alcohol begins to flow, tongues loosen and buried resentments surface in this painfully funny comedy that everyone will relate to.
The cast of twelve have been rehearsing and listening to Christmas carols since the end of August under the direction of Bill and Wendy Bewley. Bill and Wendy have been keen to direct another Mike Harding play following the successful club production on Last Tango in Whitby in Nov 2013, then when they met Mike last summer he recommended Comfort and Joy.
Father and Son team Michael and Jonathon Dawson have been working on the technical aspects of the show, whilst Heather Askew has been working on props and Eleanor Paxon has devised the costumes.
Tickets can be purchased for £10 from Theatre by the Lake box office.
