Is it really a year since the last Lake District Livestock Judging evening? It certainly is, so why not come along to Penrith and District Farmers Mart on Thursday 15th November and be a part of this popular evening in the farming calendar.
The event organised by the mart in conjunction with The Farmer Network is a great opportunity for all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at judging sheep provided by well-known breeders. There will be 7 classes of gimmer hoggs to judge – Mule, Herdwick, Swaledale, Texel, Blue Faced Leicester, Rough Fell and Suffolks, featuring for the first time this year. With prize money up for grabs in each category, Open Male, Open Female and Under 16, it’s a night not to be missed.
By popular demand, entertainment will once again be provided by Rob Smith, lead guitarist and vocalist with the Soul Survivors, supported by band member Adam Day, who will be performing a number of well-known tunes to get you singing along.
A raffle will be held, kindly matched pound for pound by Barclays Bank, with proceeds from the evening going to Carlisle and North Lakeland Hospice.
David Crowden, Chairman and General Manager at Penrith & District Farmers Mart LLP said: “From beginners to the more practised stock judge, we welcome you all. This is a relaxed evening, a bit of fun and craic and the chance to sing along if you so wish! We look forward to catching up with regular supporters of the event but also encourage those who haven’t been before to come and join us.”
Doors will be open from 6pm when a number of trade stands will be present. Judging will start at 6.30pm. Complimentary hot beef rolls will be provided so to help with catering please book a place if you plan to attend by contacting Penrith Auction Mart on 01768 864700 or emailing [email protected].
