Copeland garden collections to end soon for winter

COPELAND Council is reminding residents that garden waste collections end for the winter on Friday November 16.

The collections will be suspended as usual during this period but restart on March 11 2019.

Coun Mark Holliday, portfolio holder for Waste, said: “We know residents have found it useful now that we extend the garden waste collection period into mid November. It enables people to have their final grass cut, clear leaves and have a final tidy up before the winter.

“The Household Waste Recycling Centres in Frizington and Millom remain open during the winter months if people still need to get rid of garden waste. Some people also continue to use their brown bin – garden waste, grass in particular, does shrink down over time and sometimes the small amount of winter waste can be contained in the bin, ready for the first collection in March.”

Residents can check when their waste and recycling collections are at www.copeland.gov.uk, by clicking on ‘My Property’ and ‘Bin Collections.’

People with large gardens can purchase a second brown bin at a one-off cost of £30, plus an annual charge of £35 for the additional collection throughout the season. This can be arranged by calling the council on 01946 598300 or emailing [email protected].
