Cumbria Police arrested two men on suspicion of robbery this morning (11 Dec) following a report of a taxi having been stolen in the Wigton Road area of Carlisle.
Police were called at around 5.45am today to a report of a knife-point robbery of a taxi in the Wigton Road area, near to B&M Bargains.
The taxi, a white Skoda Octavia was subsequently found burnt out and abandoned in the Cummersdale area.
Two men, both aged in their 20s were subsequently arrested after being found in the Dalston area. The men were arrested on suspicion of robbery and drink-driving.
They are currently in police custody.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
Detective Sergeant Chris Brennand said: “Whilst two men were swiftly arrested, I would like to urge anyone who might have information which could assist us to get in touch.
“We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the robbery incident in Wigton Road, anyone who witnessed the car being abandoned or anyone who saw anyone suspicious between the car being abandoned in Cummersdale and the men being arrested in the Dalston area.”
