Lee Edwards (L), Dave Turner (Centre) and Andrew Pickering (R) join children for the Christmas ‘roll-up’!

Carus Green Golf Club’s team of professionals have hosted the 420th consecutive junior ‘roll-up’ coaching session with some extra-special pre-Christmas treats on offer! Senior Professional, Dave Turner, and Golf Centre Director’s, Lee Edwards and Andrew Pickering, welcomed more than 20 giddy competitors on Saturday, with the team presenting Christmas gifts to all the children. Fallon and Thomas took the top spot in the girls’ and boys’ section respectively, with Caitlin and James very worthy runners-up. Competitors aged from just three through to 11 were put through their paces on their putting, chipping and accuracy skills.

The Saturday junior roll-up was launched in 2009 by Andrew Pickering, and for more than eight years, junior competitions have taken place every single Saturday, come rain or shine. 2019 will see an additional course launching for more intermediate players and will offer a solid ‘next step’ for youngsters wishing to develop, grow and take their game to the next level.

“We had a wonderfully fun and productive morning and were thrilled to see so many happy youngsters at today’s session.” said Dave. “We are particularly proud, firstly, to have hosted these roll-up’s in such a consistent way and, secondly, that greater numbers of children are attending every year. In November, for example, 25 youngsters came to one of our junior sessions – an all-time-record. Our continuing objective is to be able to provide a fun-filled introduction to the game. Each year, we welcome a whole new wave of talented golfers, many of whom progress onto greater things having had their first taste of golf at Carus; that makes us very happy. We look forward to welcoming more young people in the coming year.”
