Nurses, midwives, paramedics, and anyone considering these professions are being invited to explore their career options at a recruitment event in Cumbria.

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust (NCUH), Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) are hosting the recruitment day at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. They will be joined by the University of Cumbria so health professionals of the future can hear first-hand about training and working in Cumbria.

Whatever stage of their career – those considering the professions and students soon to graduate, those looking to return to practice or simply make their next career move are all encouraged to attend.

There will be workshops and site tours of local health services including the ambulance station. Interviews will also take place on the day to speed up the recruitment process for attendees who have already applied for a roles via NHS Jobs.

Information will be provided on the day about the exciting career pathways available to those joining the NHS in Cumbria. A wide range of nursing roles are available including mental health, community, and acute care.

Alison Smith, Director of Nursing for NCUH and CPFT, said: “We have such a wide range of roles and development opportunities so it’s great to be able to work together and showcase these in one place. This follows four previous events which have resulted in the successful recruitment of health professionals and students from across the UK. I’d encourage anyone who is interested to come along and meet the teams to see what we can offer.”

This is the first event that includes paramedic recruitment and representatives from NWAS will be on hand to answer any questions.

Caroline Hastings, operations manager for NWAS, said: “This is a fantastic event for anyone considering their career options. We work very closely with our colleagues across the health system and this brings some really unique opportunities. We’re excited to meet potential recruits on the day and discuss how they can grow their career in Cumbria.”

Those considering studying with University of Cumbria can come along to meet current health professionals, tutors and students for guidance on applying and an insight into the course and profession. There will even be interviews on the day for those who wish to apply to university. Prospective students should book a place in advance via www.cumbria.ac.uk.

Dr Louise Nelson, Head of Nursing at the University of Cumbria, added: “Helping potential students navigate career options is a hugely worthwhile experience that my staff are always delighted to be part of. All of our nursing courses are accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and nearly 100% of our students gain employment upon graduation so come on down to meet us and you’ll never know where you an initial chat might take you.”

The recruitment day will take place on 9 March, 10.00 – 16.00, at the Education Centre, Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. Attendees can come for the full day or simply drop in for more information about working in Cumbria.
