A persistent shop thief telephoned police to tell them she had stolen goods from the Marks and Spencer store on English Street in Carlisle.

Lisa – Marie Presley, 44, from Prescott Road, Longsowerby, Carlisle, pleaded guilty to three-shop thefts when she appeared at Carlisle magistrates court today (Tues).

The court was told how on December 10 last year she went into the Cranstons quality butchers store on Orton Grange, near Carlisle and stole various items of meat valued at £351.

Then on February 6, this year she went to the M&S store in Carlisle and stole two-bottles of Vodka valued at £40, this time there was a male in the shop with her, Marie-Presley admitted she alone put the bottles into a plastic bag and left the store without paying,  minutes later she telephoned police tell them of the theft.

Another theft took place on March 31, from the Debenhams store in Workington, she was seen by staff at the perfume section take something, then hid it in another part of the store, she left the store to return a few minutes later and put the goods she had hidden into her handbag and left the store.

She was described in court as a ‘persistent’ shoplifter, the judge said the offences was so-serious, he sentenced her to a jail term of 10-weeks suspended for one-year, she was involved in consistent offending of theft from shops, the reasons for suspending the prison term is, to enable her one last chance with help from the Probation Services with regards to her mental health issues, she has to complete 35 days of rehabilitation activity days and pay compensation of £391 plus court costs of £85.
