With this year’s summer programme, we aim to get the whole family excited, featuring a mix of new workshops, old favourites and family friendly sessions. This is your chance to try something new, experiment with printmaking in our new evening taster sessions, or hone a skill during an intensive three-day summer school, create together and get everyone involved in our Family Workshops.

We are delighted to welcome back our award-winning tutors who continue to inspire students in all their specialist creative disciplines. Visitors can see a selection of student work in our current Creative Learning Student exhibition in the Intro Gallery.

‘It’s amazing to have such a high-quality Arts Centre on our doorstep; we are very lucky.’ Sue Madden, Contemporary Portraiture.

Life Drawing Summer School

Catherine MacDiarmid is one of the region’s top artist; she recently featured in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2019 programme. Catherine is returning to lead our popular Life Drawing Class, covering areas such as mark making, observational skills and techniques for improving measuring for accuracy. Take your life drawing skills to another level. [16 July]

‘I’m Inspired by the various processes of learning to observe the subject, and finding ways to interpret and express the rhythms and beauty of the human form.’ Life Drawing, Gillian Tabor

Our Life Drawing Classes are part of our Summer School Workshops, which include Life Drawing, Contemporary Jewellery Making, Upholstery and Digital Street Photography.

Our Beginners Guide to Digital Street Photography with commercial photographer Tim Murray is new to the Brewery. This workshop will help you to develop photographic skills out on the streets of Kendal; Tim will show you how to look at the world in a different way. [Sat 13 Jul]

Also helping you look at the world in a different way is a local writer, Northern Book prize winner and published author Amy Arnold. Amy is leading one of our writing workshops, Stop Worrying, Start Writing she will pass on her breadth of writing knowledge to students over two evenings. This short course aims to give you the freedom to write bravely and in your own voice. [12 & 26 June]

Make lasting memories in our Family Workshops, participate and get creative with all generations. Try Family Printmaking [1 June] with mum or make a day of it with grandad at the Footprint building near Windermere in our Art in the Outdoors [27 July]. Spend a day making art from found items and be inspired by the fantastic woodland surroundings. Our family workshops are ideal for all ages and usually run on Saturday afternoons.

This is just a taster of the exciting summer courses on offer at the Brewery, visit our website or pick up a brochure to find out more.
