Yoga in the Park sessions expand due to demand

Yoga in the Park sessions has expanded to new locations in Cumbria due to demand.

The outdoor sessions were launched by Cumbria Yoga Foundation in April and will also now take place in Cockermouth, Penrith and Workington this summer following an enthusiastic response to the programme.

The outdoor yoga sessions are open to those aged 16-plus of all abilities.

The foundation said they are built around a simple idea: step outside, move your body, breathe fresh air, and pay it forward.

Full-price tickets include a built-in contribution that supports the foundation’s wider charitable work – from free and subsidised places at Yoga in the Park, to accessible yoga and yoga on prescription programmes across Cumbria.

Concession tickets are available at £4 (or £20 for a six-class pass) for those on low incomes, single parents, students and low-income OAPs.

Class passes are valid across all Yoga in the Park locations.

Caroline Robinson, founder of Cumbria Yoga Foundation, said: “What we’ve seen since April is really moving. People come along for themselves – to stretch, to breathe, to slow down – and they leave knowing they’ve also helped someone else get that same experience. That’s the pay-it-forward spirit at the heart of everything we do.”

Sessions are already underway at Ulverston’s Swarthmoor Hall, Kendal’s Abbott Hall Bowling Club, Carlisle’s Bitts Park and Askham Outdoor Swimming Pool.

In Penrith, sessions will start at the bandstand in Castle Park on Tuesday from 7.30am to 8.30am.

In Cockermouth, sessions will take place in Harris Park from Sunday July 5, and in Workington, they will be held near the Park End Shelter in Vulcan Park from Thursday July 16.

They have step-free access and equipment is available on request.

Tickets are:

  • Full price: £8 – for those who are employed. Includes a pay-it-forward contribution supporting free and subsidised places, and the Foundation’s wider work bringing yoga to more communities across Cumbria.
  • Concession: £4 – for low-waged, single parents, low-income OAPs and students.
  • Six-class pass (full price): £40 – valid across any Yoga in the Park location.
  • Six-class pass (concession): £20 – valid across any Yoga in the Park location.
