Pink boat’s maiden voyage a success

This Saturday a completely pink electric boat was launched on the waters of Windermere by Windermere Quays Electric Boat Hire to help support Cancer Research UK.

The boat will help raise funds through their innovative match-funding scheme. The very pink vessel, which holds up to ten people, will cost an extra £5 per hour to hire taking the total cost to £100 per hour. Windermere Quays have pledged to match the extra £5, meaning each hour the boat is hired £10 will be raised for Cancer Research UK.

On Saturday 27th April around one hundred people attended a special launch party including politicians, councillors, prominent business people, local supporters and the team who helped build the boat. Tim Farron MP ‘cut the ribbon’ and was the first to sail in her alongside Windermere’s Deputy Mayor John Saunders, Jan Leafe Regional Donations Manager from Cancer Research UK and Managing Director Grahame Armer.

Managing Director Grahame Armer said “Our ‘Pink Lady’ certainly looked striking on her maiden voyage and we really hope that people will enjoy her uniqueness and support this new initiative for Cancer Research UK. The launch event was wonderful, and we are very grateful to Tim Farron and all who came to support the launch. I first saw these boats in Florida and could instantly picture them on Windermere so I must give a very big thank you to my team whose hard-work has turned the concept into reality. We all hope our Pink Lady not only adds a splash of colour to the lake but raises thousands for a fantastic charity.”

Tim Farron MP said: “This is a fantastic initiative from Windermere Quays.

“Everyone has someone close to them who has been affected by cancer, and so it’s great that this new boat will raise money for a charity which does amazing work in fighting cancer.

“And I want to pay tribute to our local cancer research teams, especially the team in Kendal who hot-footed it from their coffee morning to be at the launch in Bowness on Saturday.”

The special pink boat is one of a new fleet of 8 completely luxury electric crafts, including a blue one that the company are introducing to the water. Those interested in hiring the boat should contact the company directly on 015394 42121 or www.windermere-boat-hire.co.uk
