Eden Golf Club has been chosen as one of the four Cumbrian golf clubs to host the national Girls Golf Rocks programme 2019, running from 21st May through to June.
The joint programme run by England Golf and the Golf Foundation aims to encourage young girls to have a go at playing the game and will be run across 26 counties throughout England. The programme will offer free taster session, girls-only coaching courses and chances to play rounds of golf on a premier course. Eden Golf Club will be hosting a range of free activities throughout the summer for girls aged 5 – 18 years old to empower them to try golf in a supportive environment.
Eden Golf Club will be hosting numerous beginner taster sessions which will see its new PGA professional coach, Tom Hodgson, lead group activities and games. Girls Golf Rocks Ambassadors made up of Eden Golf Club young female members will also be on hand to help and encourage, teaching the participants about the game, basic movements as well as answering any questions. All the equipment needed will be provided with refreshments throughout the sessions.
Eden Golf Club will also be hosting Beginner Coaching Groups throughout May and June for those that take a fancy to the golf taster sessions. Here, small groups will learn the basics during six weekly, one-hour sessions.
Participants will also get the chance to have some game time on the golf course on the sixth week and play in a team alongside the Eden Golf Club programme ambassadors. The aim of the coaching courses will be to give the young girls a good understanding of the game, improve their technique across different shots, and give them a chance to play on a premier golf course.
Attendees will receive a US Kids iron and goodie pack once they have completed the six weeks.
Julie Wannop, Managing Director of Eden Golf Club said: “We are so honoured to have been chosen as one of the Cumbrian representatives for Girls Golf Rocks. It is such a brilliant scheme that will help empower young girls to try they game.
“The number of young females playing the game is slowly decreasing, so I hope that through the taster sessions and coaching groups, a few Cumbrian girls will be inspired to keep it going! I’m also really excited about some of our own young female players being ambassadors for the programme – it will give them great experience in teaching the game and perhaps improve their own games. A total beginner or even just a mini-golf regular, I encourage all girls in the area to give it a go!”
Girls Golf Rocks will run in 26 counties across England this year, offering free taster sessions, girls-only coaching courses and the chance to get out and play. In 2018, the programme involved 21 counties and over 1600 girls enjoyed a taste of golf, with many going on to coaching sessions.
