Driver critical after A590 crash

A driver has been flown to hospital following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A590 between Greenodd and Haverthwaite.

The collision, which involved two vans occurred at around 9.50am today (23 May).

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “One of the drivers has been airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital in a critical condition. The driver’s family are aware.

“The other driver was uninjured.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spoeksman said: “At 9:58am four fire engines from Ulverston, Barrow and Kendal attended a road traffic collision on A590/A5092 Greenodd, Ulverston.

“The incident involved one vehicle which had left the carriageway.

“One casualty extricated by fire service from the vehicle and conveyed to hospital.

“Crews were in attendance for approximately ninety minutes.”

The A590 was closed while emergency services dealt with the scene, all lanes have now reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Call Sergeant Martin Bainbridge on 101.
