A walker in the Lake District was airlifted to hospital after falling and dislocating his shoulder.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called at around 6.55pm yesterday, Tuesday June 29 to Foxes Tarn Gully, by Cumbria police.
The walker’s friend made the emergency call, and two passing climbers stopped to help, keeping the casualty warm while the mountain rescue team made their way to the scene.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Due to the remote location and the time required to reach it, the Coastguard helicopter and Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team were requested to assist.
“The helicopter attempted to reach the casualty directly but was unable to access the site due to low cloud, instead uplifting mountain rescue team personnel as close as conditions allowed.
“Once on scene, Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team treated the casualty, then lowered him down the gully on a stretcher using a rope system.
“The complexity of the injury meant the team used approximately £180-worth of medical supplies, including pain management, immobilisation equipment, and warming gear to stabilise the casualty before evacuation.
He was then stretchered further down the hill to a point low enough for the helicopter to safely winch him for onward transport to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.”
Team members then walked out into Eskdale, where vehicles had been repositioned to allow everyone to return to base at around 2.30am today, Tuesday June 30.
