Carlisle City Council supports Clean Air Day

National Clean Air Day (Thursday 20 June) will see schools, hospitals, workplaces and communities across the UK run events to inspire people to take simple steps to protect their health, and their family’s health, from air pollution.

Carlisle City Council will be supporting the campaigning event by encouraging our communities to make pledges and by running an artwork competition for local primary schools – challenging them to design their very own Clean Air Superhero. Schools can download key resources for KS1 and KS2 to promote class room activities and even organise their own Clean Air Day event by visiting www.cleanairday.org.uk.

Schools choosing to design their own Clean Air Superhero, can send their entries to Carlisle City Council’s Environmental Health team for entry into their competition. Artwork should be clearly marked with the child’s name, age, and school. Unfortunately the council won’t be able to return individual artwork.

Carlisle City Council spokesperson said: “Air pollution affects your health from your first breath to your last, as the damage to our health can start when we’re a baby and carry on through to old age. The good news is that we can improve our local air quality and there are simple steps that we can take to help our families avoid polluted air and cut down on the pollution we emit as individuals, it’s good for us and the planet.”

Clean Air Day is about practical action and awareness raising, so we can all breathe cleaner air. Clean Air Day gives every school, hospital, workplace and community free access to cutting edge advice on avoiding and tackling local air pollution, through www.cleanairday.org.uk.
