The Cumbria Under 13 Cricket Team will shortly be setting off on the long trip down to Taunton, Somerset, to take part in one of a number of Cricket Festivals held at Kings College School, Taunton during the summer. Cumbria have been attending the event for many seasons now as part of the Under 13 itinerary and the recent England Cricket world cup win makes this all the more relevant this season because one of the England stars, Jos Butler, attended Kings College as a pupil, where he captained the Schools’ Cricket Team.
The Cumbrian Team will face opposition from Devon, Lancashire, Worcestershire, Norfolk and America during five exhaustive days of Cricket and go on tour in good spirits having won 4 consecutive fixtures in the last month, including wins against First Class Counties Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, the latter game featuring two stand out individual performances from Declan Tyson (Millom CC) who scored 80 not out and Ben Allison (Netherfield CC) who claimed 6 Warwickshire Bears wickets. The team are pictured shortly after the victory over the ‘Bears’
Cumbria Under 13s are this season enjoying the sponsorship of Davies Taxis, Keswick, which, given the demanding itinerary for players and parents, is invaluable.
A spokesperson for Davies Taxis expressed their delight at the most recent set of victories stating that; “we are delighted to be associated with Cumbria Cricket and to learn of the progress that the Under 13 Team are making this season. Wins against Counties with much larger catchment areas goes to show that Cumbria has some highly talented Cricketers. It would be lovely one day to think some may progress in the footsteps of Ben Stokes and put Cumbria on the International map.”
