Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) are organising a charity rounder’s tournament for health service providers to help raise money for their Charity of the Year, Cumbria Blood Bikes.
The tournament will take place on the playing fields at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Penrith on Wednesday 31 July at 6pm.
The event follows the success of a similar tournament they organised last year to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS. The event was extremely popular with 12 organisations represented, 120 players and over 50 supporters coming to cheer their family, friends and colleagues on.
Such is the popularity of the tournament that the 12 available spaces for teams were snapped up within days of health services being notified that the event was to be held again this year. Entrants this year include a team of GP Trainees, the North Cumbria Integrated Healthcare IT team, a team of physiotherapists and also two teams from Cumbria Police, to name just a few.
All teams pay a fee to enter and there will also be a bake sale on the day with all funds raised donated to Cumbria Blood Bikes. The Cumbria Blood Bikes charity was voted by CHoC employees as the 2019 Charity of the Year. The Blood Bikes provide blood or other medical items in critical situations to be delivered urgently in order to save patient’s lives.
Sarah Taylor-Howe, CHoC Head of Business Management, said: “Following last year’s tournament we received lots of requests for the event to run again in 2019, we were overwhelmed with the positive feedback received. The tournament is a great way to bring together so many public services in a fun environment, but with a little healthy competition thrown in! It’s fantastic to bring everyone together to raise money for a fantastic cause like Cumbria Blood Bikes who we are very proud to support as our Charity of the Year.”
