Carlisle Crown Court

A MAN who attacked his partner in their hotel room after an Eden Valley wedding has been sent to prison.

Luke William Keddie, 30, became angry when Gabrielle Beasley apologised to a male stranger she bumped into after the Little Musgrave ceremony by touching his shoulder.

When Keddie and 23-year-old Miss Beasley returned to their Kirkby Stephen hotel room later on June 14, her drunken partner flew into a rage.

Carlisle Crown Court was told how – after Miss Beasley slapped Keddie in the face when he made an upsetting comment – responded by striking her twice in the face before grabbing her by the throat and pinning her to the bed. “He spat in her face and told her to stop screaming,” said prosecutor Gerard Rogerson.

Miss Beasley’s injuries including two black eyes and bruising both around and inside her ears.

When quizzed by police about those, Keddie, a man of previous good character, initially suggested “she probably caused those herself”. But in court today (FRI) he admitted an actual bodily harm assault charge.

Keddie, of Ansley Road, Nuneaton, was said to have expressed “remorse and shame” for his criminal conduct.

But, jailing him for 36 weeks, Recorder Paul Taylor told him: “You are a young, powerful man and you used that imbalance of power to hurt your partner.

“Men who do that must realise that the courts will send them to prison for behaving like that.”
