Police have named a man who died following a road traffic collision in Wigton.
The man, a pedestrian was hit by a van at around 4pm on Wednesday 31st July on New Street in Wigton.
Police officers and air ambulance were quickly on the scene due to another ongoing serious incident.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The collision sadly resulted in the death of William Hughes, an 84 year old local man, who was a pedestrian.
“The vehicle involved was a white Mercedes Sprinter van driven by a 54 year old man from Carlisle.
“Mr Hughes family are being supported by specialist police officers and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.
“Our thoughts are with those involved at this time.”
Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the van or Mr HUGHES prior to the collision are asked to contact PC2090 Craig HYNES at Workington Police Station on 101.
