The ghosts of Lowther

An evening adventure for ghost-lovers of all ages

Fans of the Addams Family, lovers of ghouls, soul-hunters, day-of-the-dead followers, people who dream of spider-webs, ghostly voices, spectral mist, ghoulish sounds and unexpected happenings – rejoice! The Ghosts of Lowther are back on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th October to give Lowther Castle and its visitors a thoroughly good haunting.

The event comprises a series of timed walks, during which ghoulistes can expect to encounter a range of exceptionally creepy characters. From The Knocker to the Headless Gardener to The Axeman to the Mistress of the Rose Garden, the cast – drawn, so rumour has it, from Ullswater College and Highly Suspect of Carlisle – will do their best to add salt and pepper to the journey of Hallowe’eners and make sure they view the gardens at Lowther with renewed respect. The Gardens Strike Back is the title of this year’s event. And so they shall.

As seasoned Lowther Hallowe’eners will know, spook-watching is not all about spooks. So besides offering visitors timed walks, the event ticket will also include entertainments particularly aimed at younger members of the family. These include face-painting from Fancy Fox Face Painting; lantern-making, guided by ARTventurers Carlisle; the opportunity for muggles to come up close to three owls, brought by the Cumberland Bird Of Prey Centre; science demos on bones, skull and skeletons with the University of Cumbria; and drumming, on Saturday night from Kookaburra Drummers and on Sunday from BJamba.

There will also be an array of street-food vendors and, for the truly excitable, a Hallowe’en disco.

Please note: gates open at 5.00pm. Timed walks take place at 5.30pm, 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm. The later you book, the more spooked you will be. Tickets are Adult: £10.00 and Child (aged 3-15) £8.00. To be booked online via www.lowthercastle.org
