Copeland events to be held to mark Remembrance Sunday

EVENTS will take place around Copeland to mark Remembrance Sunday (November 10).

Whitehaven

From 10am, the parade will assemble outside Copeland Council’s offices, on Catherine Street. The parade to the cenotaph in Castle Park begins at 10.40am, where a service and wreath-laying takes place at 10.55am.

The parade will then proceed via Lowther Street, King Street and Market Place for a Service of Remembrance in the United Reformed Church at 11.30am.

Following the service, a pie and pea lunch will be served at Whitehaven Civic Hall to those who have taken part in the parade.

St John’s Church, Hensingham, will hold an act of remembrance during its 10.50am service.

St Begh’s Church will hold an act of remembrance during its 10am service.

Millom

From 9am, the parade will assemble at the Pensioners’ Hall, on Mainsgate Road. The parade will start at 9.35am, leading to a service at St George’s Church at 10am. The parade will then resume after the service and go on to the cenotaph for wreath-laying.

After the parade, refreshments are available in the Conservative Club.

Cleator Moor

A Remembrance Service will be held at St John’s Church at 2.40pm, followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial on the Square, and a brief service at the Methodist Church. Light refreshments will be served in the Methodist Church Hall following the service.

Egremont

From 10.30am, the parade will assemble at the Conservative Club and march to the war memorial for a service and wreath-laying at 11am. A service will then take place at St Michael and St Mary’s Church, followed by entertainment and refreshments at the Egremont Veterans’ Club.

Moor Row

A short wreath-laying service will take place at the war memorial at 1pm.

Distington

A Remembrance Service will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 9.45am, before a parade to the war memorial followed by refreshments at the Community Centre.

St Bees

Wreaths will be laid on the war memorial at 10.15am, before a service in the Priory at 10.45am.

Frizington

An ecumenical community service will be held in Frizington Community School’s hall, Main Street, at 1.30pm, followed by the laying of wreaths at the war memorial opposite the school.

Sandwith

A ceremony will take place at the war memorial at 10.45am.

Eskdale

A ceremony will take place at the war memorial at 10.45am.

Drigg

A Remembrance Service will take place at St Peter’s Church at 10.45am.

Kirkland

An Act of Remembrance will take place during the 9am service at Kirkland Mission.

Lamplugh

A service will take place at St Michael’s Church at 10.30am, followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial in the churchyard.

Ennerdale

A service and wreath-laying will take place at the war memorial in the churchyard at St Mary’s Church at 2.30pm.

Gosforth

Gosforth School holds its Remembrance Service at 9am on Friday, November 8 at Gosforth Church. Members of the public are invited.

** Events are also taking place around the borough in the week before, and the week after, Remembrance Sunday. Details of these are available locally.
