Today, Save Grange Lido Ltd launches “Friends of Grange Lido”, a new opportunity for people to be involved in the restoration of the iconic Art Deco swimming pool on Grange promenade.

The scheme will ensure the Friends are first to hear about any developments with the restoration of the site as well as demonstrating to potential funders the extent of the support for the restoration project.

To coincide with the launch, Save Grange Lido has published a stunning video on its social media channels. It was filmed during open days held at the Lido in August, which were funded by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The film feaures many people who attended the popular events.

The Friends scheme will help raise funds for Save Grange Lido’s work to bring the swimming pool back to life, build a community of supporters as well as demonstrating to funders the considerable support for the project.

Grange Lido was built in 1932 to an art deco design. The facility is the only remaining seaside Lido in the north of England and features a unique 50 metre mushroom shaped pool. It closed in 1993 and has been derelict ever since.

Work will begin in the new-year on the phase one redevelopment of the site which will restore the buildings and pool surrounds of the grade II listed lido. Save Grange Lido Ltd are raising money for the phase two development which will see the pool restored and the facility reopened as a centre for exercise, health and well-being, as well as becoming a major attraction for South Lakeland.

Commenting on the scheme, David Dawson, Save Grange Lido Company Secretary said: “This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who wants to see this iconic lido open again to be a part of the project that will make that happen. It will also provide an income that will help SGL with future funding applications and grants and demonstrate the overwhelming support we know is out there to restore the pool, which has lain derelict for far too long.”

Denise Armstrong, Treasurer of Save Grange Lido, said “We are really grateful to everyone who has helped us so far. Establishing the Friends of Grange Lido is a really important step in reviving the Lido; every pound raised will help the project and each supporter will make a real difference.”
