Theatre by the Lake is delighted to be launching their first ever scratch night, Open Space, on 5 February 2020, in order to discover and develop local creative talent, and to offer an opportunity for artists to explore new ideas, experiment, and test material in front of an audience in a professional venue. Anyone interested in taking part is invited to send in their proposal to the theatre by 16 December.
Open Space is intended for all kinds of untried and untested work, from spoken word to music, from dance to theatre, and aims to create a supportive environment for artists to test out their ideas and receive feedback. Artists and groups who are selected will be asked to prepare three questions which will be handed to audience members prior to the performance, with feedback being collected at the end of the event. TBTL will also encourage conversations to continue in the bar area after the event.
Producer Zoe Bailey said: “Talent development is something we’re keen to embrace at TBTL. We want to find out what our local artists and creative minds are up to, and we want to give people a platform to try out their work. We also want to encourage our audiences to come and support this local talent, and help further develop it through feedback and conversation.”
