Karen’s early Christmas present from Rosemere

Karen Hartley

There were no slim pickings for Staveley mum Karen Hartley when she bought a raffle ticket in support of Rosemere Cancer Foundation at her Slimming World club night in Kendal – she won the annual grand draw’s first prize of £1,000!

A cheque for the money came as an early Christmas present, presented to her at home by the charity’s trust and corporate fundraising manager Cathy Skidmore.

Karen, who is married to Phil, mum to Lewis (12) and step mum to Sophie (11) and Benjamin (eight), bought the ticket from her friend and fellow club member Avril Galashan, a Rosemere Cancer Foundation supporter.

Knowing it was on its way meant Karen treated the family to a weekend break at Gullivers World theme park in Warrington. She has also booked a second weekend break for her and Phil in January and bought some extra special Christmas presents.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout South Cumbria and Lancashire being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, the region’s specialist cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and at another eight local hospital cancer units throughout the two counties, including that at Westmorland General Hospital.

The charity funds cutting edge equipment, research, training and other cancer services that are beyond limited NHS resources. For further information on its work, including how to make a donation, visit www.rosemere.org.uk
