St Benedict’s Sixth Form Students return for Awards Evening

Former Sixth Form students from St Benedict’s Catholic High School have returned for a special evening to celebrate their A-Level successes and time spent at the Sixth Form Centre.

The annual Celebration of Achievement Evening was held on Wednesday 8th January, with students returning with their parents and families to pick up their A-Level certificates, along with some very special awards.

Emma Jackson, Headteacher at St Benedict’s gave a speech at the ceremony, and also handed out some awards. She said:

“It was an honour to attend my first Sixth Form Awards Evening. I am very proud of all our students and their achievements, and wish them well for their future.”

The ceremony showcased the high achieving students who received their A-Levels in the summer of 2019 by handing out individual awards alongside the A-Level certificates.

Awards handed out covered Academic Excellence; Outstanding Progress and Outstanding Effort & Contribution in all subjects, as well as individual awards for Outstanding Dedication to their studies, and Outstanding Achievement in A-Levels.

Joseph Brennan – Outstanding Achievement in A Levels

Notable winners included Joseph Brennan and Grace Ridley who both the Award for Outstanding Achievement in A Level Examinations. Joseph Brennan gained 2 A*s and 2 As and is now studying Astrophysics at St Andrew’s University.

Grace Ridley – Outstanding Achievement in A Levels

Grace Ridley gained 1 A* and 2 As and is now taking some time out before studying at Durham University.

Katie James and Niamh Ross both received awards for Outstanding Dedication to Sixth Form Study.

Lamont Pridmore once again sponsored a special award, presenting the Business Studies Student of the Year Award to former student, Matthew Pattinson.

Aaron Soriano

Aaron Soriano won The Denvir Award for Maths, which was presented by members of the Denvir family. A new slate plaque will be on display in the Winter Gardens at St Benedict’s listing the winners of this award.

Diana Green presenting the Kevin Green Award for Resilience to Georgia Harper

A new award for this year was The Kevin Green Award for Resilience, which was won by Georgia Harper. This was presented by Kevin Green’s wife & daughter, in memory of Mr Green who sadly passed away in 2013. He was former Head of Sixth Form and teacher at St Benedict’s.

Sheena Kar, Director of Learning at the Sixth Form comments: “It was absolutely lovely to see all our returning students for their awards evening. It was a fantastic celebration of our students’ time at St Benedict’s and a massive congratulations to all our students on their A Level results and their individual awards. I wish them every success for their futures.”
