Stanwix residents are being urged to support a week-long Great British Spring Clean campaign.
With the support of Carlisle City Council and local ward councillors, a comprehensive clean-up of the Stanwix area will be held between Monday 23 and Saturday, 28 March, coinciding with the national Great British Spring Clean (20 March – 13 April).
Volunteers who want to take an active part are being asked to take part in a litter-pick. This will be held on Saturday, 28 March. Anyone that wants to take part should meet at Stanwix Community Association Centre, Church Street, Stanwix at 10am.
Local community groups and schools have also been approached to see if they can lend their support. Anyone interested in organising their own activities in support of Stanwix’s Big Tidy-Up is asked to contact Cllr Paul Nedved on 07745 302097.
Carlisle City Cllr Paul Nedved, Ward Councillor for Stanwix and Houghton, said: “Stanwix residents and businesses take great pride in their community and were recognised in last year’s Cumbria in Bloom awards as well as being silver-gilt award winners in Britain in Bloom two years running. Both awards celebrate the area’s environmental responsibility and community participation. Please get involved in this year’s spring clean and help us tackle the menace of litter, graffiti, dog fouling and fly-tipping.”
Stanwix Big Tidy will be joining forces with Keep Britain Tidy in their national “The Great British Spring Clean” in March. The campaign aims to inspire more people from community and voluntary groups, clubs, businesses across the country to get active and help clean up their neighbourhood.
