A group of St Benedict’s Year 7 girls have been successful in the Regional 5-a-side Football Finals in Durham.
They were the Cumbrian representatives in the Regional A Finals of the English Schools Indoor 5- a-side, having won the County Competition in January.
The team travelled to the North East on Wednesday 5th February, and competed against other teams from Cleveland, Durham, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Northumberland.
They were unbeaten in all of their games with scores of:
- Egglescliffe School (Cleveland) 1-1 draw
- Ovingham School (Northumbria) 2-1 win
- Birley Academy(South Yorkshire) 5-0 win
- Rossett School (North Yorkshire) 4-0 win
- Johnston High School (Durham) 2-1 win
Miss Powe, Subject Leader for PE at St Benedict’s travelled with the team to Durham. She said: “The girls were simply outstanding in a very tough and hard fought competition. They worked together as a team and had the desire to win; displaying great skill, energy and commitment.”
“I am super proud of the girls. They are a huge credit to our school and their families. We cannot wait to play in the National Finals in Birmingham.”
Having won this competition the team now go on to represent Region A in the National Finals in Birmingham on March 16th.
