A CARLISLE man who produced a knife inside the home of his ex-partner and bombarded her with phone calls and texts has been sentenced.
David Anthony Warwick, 32, split with Samantha White last August after nine years together, the city’s crown court was told.
During a party in late October Warwick assaulted Miss White’s sister, Sheila Russell, pushing her and grabbing her arm, causing damage to a new tattoo and bruising.
During the first weeks of 2020, Warwick made calls, sent messages and followed Miss White. On January 29 he went into her Carlisle home despite her trying to stop him, producing a blade from his trouser pocket and vowing: “I’ll knife anyone who’s here.”
Nobody else was present. Warwick left the address, later calling Miss White 41 times and sending 35 texts.
Warwick, of Milbourne Street, Carlisle, admitted harassment, affray and also assaulting her sister, Sheila Russell, at a party in October. He was said to have been going through a “period of extreme emotional instability” at the time, and was sorry for his bad behaviour.
After hearing Warwick had spent five weeks in custody on remand and that his former partner was supportive, Judge Nicholas Barker imposed a 24-month community order. Warwick must complete a “building better relationships” course, rehabilitation and 150 hours’ unpaid work. “It may well be that you were suffering from difficulties yourself,” said the judge. “But to take it out on those closest to you is unforgivable, and you will have to reconcile that with them.”
