Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closures, the Big Pedal 2020 event, due to take place between 27 April and 5 May has been cancelled.
A Cumbria County Council spokesman said: “We want to make sure everyone is kept safe. And we want to minimise the risk of spreading Coronavirus wherever possible.
“With the recent announcement that schools across the UK are closing and after monitoring government and NHS guidance daily, we have cancelled this year’s challenge.
“The annual Walk to School Week event, due to take place in May, has been postponed and is now scheduled to take place in October 2020, during International Walk to School Month.
“Further details will be confirmed in due course.”
