Mark Jenkinson MP has launched a petition to save Seaton’s Royal British Legion building.
There is a proposal to demolish the building, resulting in the loss of an important community asset.
Although the rate of pub closures has slowed in recent years it remains at a worryingly high level, with traditional community pubs being particularly vulnerable. A combination of factors, such as falling footfall and soaring property prices is leading to many owners shutting down their pubs and converting the buildings to another use.
Mark has written to Edgeplan Ltd who have submitted the planning application. He has also written to Allerdale Borough Council, Seaton Parish Council and the Royal British Legion to raise his objections.
Mark said: “Seaton is a real community and the village itself, although large – with over 5000 residents – has relatively few facilities. The British Legion is a community asset that I want to protect.
“I have started a petition which residents can sign to oppose the demolition of this building. The Legion has served Seaton for decades and I want to see it remain in the village.”
