Kind-hearted Jasmine sends donations to West Cumbria NHS staff

Work for NHS staff at hospitals in West Cumbria have been made that little bit easier, thanks to a kind-hearted Allerdale staff member.

Jasmine Ritchie, Allerdale Borough Council’s Safety and Resilience Officer, has been delivering gift bags to NHS staff with donations from local businesses.

The idea came to her after seeing the effects of the PPE on her mum’s skin following shifts as a nurse at Cockermouth hospital. She therefore took so social media to ask for donations such as lip balm, hand cream and other products to help the staff.

A donation point was set-up by Cockermouth Titans Rugby League club so that people could provide goodies and still adhere to social distancing rules. And as a result of her efforts, she’s been inundated with gifts from generous local donors.

And the list of gifts has grown to include cup cakes, energy bars and other items.

Jasmine said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses – especially at a time when money is tight for so many. And as I go round delivering these goody bags I know just how welcome they are to everyone. It’s great to be able to show that we care about the staff and appreciate the work they are doing.”

Jasmine delivered 32 bags to Cockermouth hospital over the past weekend, and will be doing the same with other hospitals over the next few weeks.

Donations have been received from many organisations including Kevin Dickinson UPVC, The Luxe Wax Company, Goodwin Roofing, Handmade with Love by Laura, Genesis Home Appliances, Amethyst Beauty Cockermouth, and Tesco in Workington (who provided the bags).

Anyone wishing to donate gifts, should contact Jasmine via her Facebook page.
