Health and care leaders from across Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) have today welcomed the appointment of David Flory CBE as the new ICS Independent Chair.

He will be joining the system in Autumn 2020, working closely with Dr Amanda Doyle OBE – the ICS Chief Officer – and other local leaders to help to deliver the local vision to work together to improve health and care for local people across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

His appointment follows a competitive selection process involving a wide range of local and regional stakeholders, as well as formal approval by Chief Executive of the NHS, Sir Simon Stevens.

Since 2015, David has been the Chief of Hospitals at Hamad Medical Corporation in the State of Qatar, responsible for 14 hospitals with 2,500 beds providing a full range of secondary and tertiary services for the country.

Prior to moving to the Middle East, David had 22 years board level experience as Chief Executive and Executive Director of NHS organisations in England, including six years working as Deputy Chief Executive / Director General in the Department of Health for England.

David Flory CBE, incoming Independent Chair for Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System, said: “I am looking forward to working with all the partners in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System as we continue to come together to deliver high quality health and care services for all our communities.”

Dr Amanda Doyle OBE, Chief Officer for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System, said: “I am delighted to welcome David Flory to our system. The addition of an Independent Chair with David’s experience and insights will, I am sure, help our Integrated Care System to meet its ambitions and deliver even better integrated services to the 1.8million people we serve.”

Bill McCarthy, Regional Director (North West) for NHS England and NHS Improvement and chair of the appointment panel, said: “I’m delighted to welcome David, who will offer great leadership alongside Amanda to improve health and care in Lancashire and South Cumbria.”

Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System is a partnership of NHS, local authority, public sector, voluntary, faith, community, social enterprise and academic organisations. The partnership aims to join up health and care services, listen to the priorities of our communities, local people and patients and tackle some of the biggest challenges we are all facing.
