Grasmere Sports Cancels but Vows to Stage Vibrant 2021 Event

Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show has regrettably taken the very hard decision to cancel its much-loved event, which was scheduled for August 30, 2020.

The show says that, hard as it will be to not celebrate Lakeland life and culture in traditional ways, it has had to place the public’s welfare and safety at the forefront of its thinking, as always.

Without the benefit of being able to predict whether social distancing guidelines will still be in place in the late summer, and bearing in mind the event’s popularity and the nature of the elements which make it so spectacular, the show’s executive and directors believe there was no sensible alternative but to cancel.

With months of planning going into the Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show day, the organisers are seeking to minimise the impact on those who would have been involved or planning to visit, perhaps travelling a fair distance to do so.

Instead, it says it will be putting all of its energy into its 2021 event, which it is determined shall feature a programme that is bigger, better and more vibrant than ever before.

Speaking on behalf of Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show, Chairman, Hal Bagot, says; “We are determined to not let the 2020 situation beat us. We shall direct our focus into our 2021 event, with the aim of keeping the culture of the area alive.

“We believe the essence of many of our events, and the glorious natural backdrop against which Grasmere Sports takes place, will offer the less complicated and more uplifting diversion that many of us will seek after the unprecedented year we are experiencing.

“We look forward to welcoming new faces who have yet to experience the rich fabric of Lakeland life and our stunning landscape and, of course, our loyal local residents who provide us with such great support and who we are sure will respect our decision.”
