Victims charities invited to apply for emergency funding during COVID-19

Charity organisations that help victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence can apply for extra funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Cumbria to help sustain their services during COVID-19.

The PCC was granted funding up to £170,000 from the Ministry of Justice to provide support to registered charities in Cumbria who may be struggling to keep their services running during the Government restrictions.

All organisations can find the application and more information on whether they are eligible for the funding on the PCC website homepage. The applications are currently open and will close on Monday 1 June 2020 at 12pm.

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, said: “This funding is greatly appreciated from the MOJ and will be used for an incredible cause.

“Sadly, in Cumbria, we have seen domestic abuse increase since the beginning of the Government’s guidelines to stay at home.

“I would always encourage anyone in an abusive situation to come forward and report it to the Police but I know that this isn’t an option for everyone which is why domestic abuse and sexual abuse charities are so important.

“I am urging all registered charities that help people in abusive situations, past and present, to apply for this extraordinary funding that will help keep the services up and running during COVID-19.

“Your work is so important to the people of Cumbria and we can help you during these difficult times and support you to continue this selfless and life-changing work.”
