Furness Coastguard was called to Earnse Bay after a report of a person drifting out to sea on an inflatable.
The team was called away from an event yesterday, Saturday July 11, at Ulverston Blue Light Hub to attend the incident.
When they arrived, they found the inflatable was a kayak with an outboard motor.
The team was told by someone there that the person on board was a fisherman who had been there all day.
Barrow RNLI’s inshore boat was also called to investigate, but stood down when not required.
Furness Coastguard thanked the person for their concern and for having the confidence to call 999.
Furness Coastguard said: “We class this incident as a false alarm with good intent, or better safe than sorry.”
The team returned to the event.
