Police appeal after woman sexually assaulted in Barrow

Police are investigating a sexual assault which occurred outside Westfield Terrace, Salthouse Road just before 5am today (June 18).

During the incident a man has approached a woman in her 50s and touched her breast and bottom.

Officers would like to speak to a man described as in his 20’s, medium build, short fair hair, wearing dark shorts and pushing a black coloured mountain bike who was in the area at the time.

The victim didn’t sustain any injury in the assault and is receiving support from specially trained officers.

T/Detective Inspector Mike Wallace said: “Incidents such as this are extremely rare and a would like to reassure the public that Cumbria Police are taking this extremely seriously and have allocated a team of detectives to thoroughly investigate what taken place.

“If you think you may have seen a man matching the description or witnessed the incident please get in touch.  If you were in area around the time of the incident the again we would like to hear from you.”
