A man has been seriously injured following a single vehicle road traffic collision on B5345 at Sandwith.
The collision occurred shortly after 11.15pm (1 July) where a red Audi A3 left the road and ended up in a nearby field.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The driver, a man aged in his 40s, has suffered serious injuries and is receiving medical treatment.”
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two fire engines attended a road traffic collision involving two casualties at Low Road Whitehaven.
“There was one casualty who self-extricated prior to fire service arrival.
“Crews used Holmatro cutting gear, first aid kit, oxygen and a stretcher.
“The casualty was transported to hospital.
“Crews remained on scene for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.”
The road was closed between the junctions of Mirehouse Road and Byerstead Road but has now reopened.
Officers are investigating the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to contact police by calling 101 and referencing incident number 274 of 1 July.
