Keswick’s new neurorehabilitation centre Calvert Reconnections has geared up for its September opening with the appointment of Dr Amy Burns as Clinical Lead.

Dr Burns has worked within the NHS for 20 years, qualifying in 2004 as a Clinical Psychologist and in 2012, as a Neuropsychologist.  Her experience as a qualified psychologist includes 16 years working with adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) and other neurological conditions, providing assessment and individualised neurorehabilitation on a 1:1 and group basis. Dr Burns has worked alongside other members of multi-disciplinary teams and external agencies, in order to support people to work towards their rehabilitation goals.  Her experience includes community and outpatient working and also residential and inpatient settings.

Commenting on her decision to join Calvert Reconnections, Dr Burns said: “The role of Clinical Lead at Calvert Reconnections brings with it an exciting challenge, joining an innovative team as the service prepares to open to its first participants.

“The pioneering Calvert Reconnections rehabilitation programme will combine effective multi-disciplinary neurorehabilitation with the specialist tradition at the Calvert Trust of providing outdoor experience for people with disabilities.

“The vision is an engaging neurorehabilitation programme, making full use of the outdoors and countryside that surrounds its Lake District setting. The aim is to enable individuals to live as full a life as possible after brain injury, facilitating a sense of hope for the future and leading to meaningful and lasting change.”

Sean Day, Centre Director at Calvert Reconnections said: “We are delighted to welcome Amy as our Clinical Lead.  With extensive experience and an outstanding reputation, she has a key role to play in the success of our new rehabilitation programme for ABI survivors.”

In other senior appointments, Calvert Reconnections has welcomed Rob White as Head Rehab Coach and Femke van Schelven as Neurological Physiotherapist.

Located on the outskirts of the bustling market town of Keswick in the Lake District, Calvert Reconnections, run by the Lake District Calvert Trust, is a new neurorehabilitation, residential centre providing ground-breaking rehabilitation programmes for ABI survivors.

Calvert Reconnections has developed the UK’s first Covid-19 compliant brain injury rehabilitation programme combining traditional interdisciplinary clinical therapies with physical activity in the outdoors.
