Carter Deakin

Six-year-old Carter Deakin from Barrow wowed family and friends this month when he organised a yard sale, selling toys, cakes and more in aid of Furness General Hospital Children’s Ward, raising an incredible £660.

The idea came about when Carter and mum Louise were out for a walk, and saw someone having a yard sale. The idea was born straight away and Carter rushed home to sort out his old Hot Wheels tracks, action figures, football equipment – even slime!

Mum Louise said, “Carter is a really kind and thoughtful boy, and he said he wanted to help the ‘poorly kids’ at the local hospital. He cleared out some toys to sell, and people in our community were really generous too. We had over 30 raffle prizes and cakes donated, from hair and nail vouchers, to fizz, to fruit and veg boxes. And of course, Carter did the classic ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’. It was a great turn out.”

Heather Wood, Matron for Children and Young People at Furness General Hospital, said, “We are so thankful to Carter for all his hard work raising £660 to support our little patients here at Furness General. It will go a long way to making children’s stay on the ward less scary.”

If you would like to donate and support your local NHS hospital, contact Bay Hospitals Charity on 01524 516064.
