A Level Results Day Tips

B6FC graduate and current Furness College Student Liaison Officer Liam Edgley was getting his results this time last year. Below, he gives his top tips on getting through A Level results day. The advice is especially important this year given that many students haven’t been back into college since lockdown due to Covid-19.

Start the day right

Results day is massively emotional. You may have important decisions to make so it’s best to give yourself the best chance of thinking clearly! A good breakfast and some decent sleep will help massively on the day.

Bring someone along

Collecting results can be very nerve-wracking. Bring along a friend or family member to wait outside for you. That way, there’s someone there to either celebrate with you or look after you and help you make decisions. You will have had an appointment time by letter and should stick to this time.

Talk to college staff

Staff have been through results day tons of times before. They know exactly how to help. If you’re a bit down about your results then I’d speak to a staff member, it might just be that they can offer some advice on your next steps.

Set aside time to spend with family

Results day is one of the most important days of the year. You’ll quite possibly be shattered after it. Make sure you spend some time celebrating and chilling out with your family, or friends, afterwards. Big celebrations can always wait until the next day! If the results don’t go as planned then it’s important that you’ve got some time at home with people who can comfort you.

There are always other options

Results aren’t the end of the world. If you miss your university offer, or even if you’ve just changed your mind, then it’s important to check out other options. UCAS Clearing is a great way of accessing other university courses without having to redo your application. Check it out, or ask your tutors for more information.

Furness College is holding a drop-in Advice Session at the Channelside campus on Thursday 20th August 12noon-5pm for expert information about next steps, including the university degree programmes that can be studied in Barrow.
