TWO Kendal men are facing prison sentences for burgling a home in the town.
Martin Denis Buchanan, 39, and 38-year-old David Craig Morrison appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today over a video link from Preston prison.
Buchanan and Morrison both admitted burglary having entered a home at Greengate Lane in Kendal, as trespassers, on July 18 this year, and stolen a quantity of figurines.
Buchanan also admitted the illegal possession of a butter knife in a public place, Greengate Lane, and further pleaded guilty to possession of class B drug cannabis., both offences being committed on the same date.
No specific details about the crimes committed by the two men were given by the prosecution during today’s short hearing.
The judge, Recorder Tom Gilbart, adjourned the case for sentence until September 10. He remanded Buchanan, of Kirkland, and Morrison, of Wattsfield Lane, both Kendal, in custody in the meantime, and asked for the probation service to prepare a pre-sentence report on the latter after hearing he was “relatively lightly convicted”.
No such report was ordered for Buchanan, who was said to have previous burglaries on his criminal record.
Recorder Gilbart told Morrison: “These are serious matters. The report is to assist the court and it gives no indication, the fact I’m am adjourning for a report today. All options will be open to the court on the next occasion.”
