Penrith and Eden Museum

Penrith Tourist Information Centre and Penrith and Eden Museum have reopened.

The Eden District Council owned museum and tourist information centre both have Visit England’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ accreditation: a trusted mark that a tourism or hospitality business has worked hard to follow Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines and has processes in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

They are operating at reduced capacity, but will continue to offer the opportunity to savour the history and heritage of the local area.

Deputy Leader, Councillor Mary Robinson said: “We’re delighted to be able to open the doors of our Penrith TIC and the Penrith and Eden Museum once again, to visitors and local residents alike. We’ve done our utmost during the closure to offer a full service to our users and ensure their needs were met either online or by chatting in person over the phone.

“We are really pleased to welcome our visitors back to our beautiful district of Eden and we hope that they will once again enjoy the beautiful landscapes they love, the mix of outdoor activities and attractions, plus our wonderful local food and places to stay.”

Rebecca Short, Joint Museum Curator said: ““We are thrilled to be reopening the museum after this difficult time. All galleries are open except for the geology gallery which is closed for now as part of a phased reopening, with safety being our priority. We have however been able to extend the run of our exhibition ‘Remembering Eden’ until 2021, which is fantastic news. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the museum.”

The museum and tourist information centre are open on a Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a full email and telephone enquiry service will be available (01768 867466 and [email protected]) Visitor numbers allowed into the Museum and TIC at any one time is limited, therefore some queuing may be required.

Enquiries or offers of donations for the Museum should be sent by email to [email protected] or by telephoning 01768 865105. Please note, the museum will not currently be able to take any material without prior agreement and arrangement with the curator.
