Joseph Chubb

Aspiring professional make-up artist Joseph Chubb has achieved his dream of a university place after studying the one-year Level 2 Hair and Media Make Up at Furness College.

The 19-year-old former Furness Academy student has secured a place on the Media Make Up for Fashion degree at Salford University on the strength of his portfolio and a previous Level 3 qualification.

“I did art and design at sixth form and as part of that I experimented with drag looks and found out how much fun make up was and enjoyed that way more. I realised I wanted a career in the industry because I liked the fact you get to work with a person rather than paper.

“I was always 50/50 about going to university but I knew if I wanted to make it then I need to progress from the basics to learning about it in greater depth.

“My tutors were amazing and after teaching myself drag make up they taught me how to scale it back down for people and parties.

“They organised workshops from professionals at places such as Bobbi Brown, which helped me build my skills and confidence.

“I love colour and I can explode it up but they stretched me so now my portfolio ranges from fashion magazines, runway and editorial to the more colourful and dramatic looks.

“I’m looking forward to university, the experience and the chance to just learn.”

Joseph Chubb is going to Salford University after studying media make up at Furness College.

Tutor Michelle Coward said: “We are all so proud of Joseph who has great natural talent and has worked hard to stretch himself on this course and produced work of a very high standard that has secured him a university place straight from Level 2. He’s definitely one to watch in the future.”

There are still places on our Hair and Beauty courses, including media make up, for details email [email protected] or call 01229 825017.
