A WEST Cumbria teenager will learn his fate next month for the commission of a cocaine supply crime.
Josh Lewis Conway, 19, faced one charge when he appeared in front of a judge at Carlisle Crown Court.
Conway admitted possessing class A controlled drug cocaine with intent to supply it to another, on July 14 last year. The teen is said to have been stopped while driving a car in Whitehaven and found with cocaine which had a potential street value of up to £1,120.
The court heard Conway, of Hinnings Road, Distington, Workington, had submitted a formal basis for the guilty plea which, his barrister Jamie Baxter understood, was acceptable to the prosecution. “In the circumstances the court would be assisted, in my submission, by a full (probation service) pre-sentence report exploring all options,” said Mr Baxter, who added of Conway: “He is aware of the serious nature of his offence.”
Recorder Jeremy Lasker adjourned the case for the preparation of a report. Conway is due to be sentenced at the crown court on October 9, and was granted bail in the meantime.
“The fact that I am releasing you on bail is no indication of the sentence that is going to be imposed,” said Recorder Lasker, who stated that a different judge would hand down the punishment, and added: “It is his view of the case on that occasion that is important.”
