Building work is under way to refurbishment of Barrow island community sports hub for Barrow island and surrounding areas in Barrow in Furness.

The Barrow island community sports hub project is a step closer now that the removal of the old shower and walls are taken out and replaced at the site in Barrow island community sports hub

The project, which is being funded by a £76,187.31 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, will provide Refurbish the Referee’s room and creating a additional female Referee’s changing room which fetch us in line with sports England guide lines the money will also support the build of a office / meeting room.

The Office /Meeting Room will allow us to bring in various support groups to deliver various services, we have had a high demand for these services once it is open in October

Rob Mcaloone Director of Barrow island community sport trust is excited that the project is starting to take shape.

Rob says: “It’s great to see our vision for this vital community facility moving closer to reality. We are extremely grateful for the funding FCC Communities Foundation has given us and we’re looking forward to opening to the public.”

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund

FCC Communities Foundation spokesperson, Penny Horne says: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Cavendish Park Changing Facilities project and pleased our funding will make such a difference to so many groups of people within Barrow-in-Furness and the surrounding neighbourhoods. FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and we’re looking forward to this one having a positive impact very soon.”
