Resusci Anne clinicians working on their skills

Global renewable energy firm, Orsted, has funded two sets of COVID-19 resuscitation training equipment for Bay Hospitals Charity, which will help to train clinicians at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).

The equipment, named ‘Resusci-Anne’, is designed to look and function like a person and can be programmed to simulate different situations such as breathing problems or cardiac arrest, providing the opportunity for clinical teams to practise their skills for emergency or uncommon situations.

The Resusci-Annes will be used daily to support colleague training and retraining of colleagues, allowing them to upskill, particularly where colleagues have been redeployed from their own areas of specialty to support COVID wards. Following COVID-19, the equipment will continue to be used across the Bay to provide training for all clinicians, presenting with different health conditions and situations.

Barry Rigg, Head of Patient Experience at UHMBT, said: “We are so grateful to Orsted for this generous donation.

“This equipment is going to make an enormous difference both to our staff and patients during the pandemic.

“One of the best things about Resusci-Anne is that it’s possible to use the equipment while still maintaining a two-metre distance from your trainer. Simulations can even be done with the trainer behind glass, making this a really safe way to receive training and develop new skills.”

Howard Shields, Head of UK West Operations at Ørsted, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the incredible efforts of our regional nurses, doctors and health workers at a very difficult time.

“The events of recent months have highlighted their vital work in the community and we hope this new equipment will help them continue to deliver the same level of support in the future.”

Orsted is continuing to do more for our local hospitals, also funding outdoor gym equipment planned for Furness General Hospital to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of NHS staff.

If you would like to donate and support your local NHS hospital, contact Bay Hospitals Charity on 01524 516064.

Bay Hospitals Charity is a registered charity which raises money to improve patient care and the hospital and community experience across University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. By donating to Bay Hospitals Charity you can fund the latest equipment and help make your local hospitals more comfortable, ensuring you and your loved ones get the best possible care and treatment.
