Residents and businesses are being invited to give their views on a draft document which will provide a guide to development in Workington town centre.

The draft Workington Town Centre Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out a vision and strategic objectives for the area with a view to promoting regeneration, encouraging investment and facilitating positive change.

Four key themes have been used to identify ways to develop the town centre:

  • Connectivity and movement to/within the town centre;
  • Re-use of empty properties;
  • Improving the environment; and
  • Development of key sites

The Allerdale Local Plan (Part 2) was adopted by Allerdale Borough Council in July and the SPD expands upon and supports policies within the adopted Allerdale Local Plan (Parts 1 and 2).

The draft SPD and supporting documents have been published on Allerdale Borough Council’s website at www.allerdale.gov.uk/workingtonspd and views of members of the public are now being sought.

The consultation will run until 5pm on Friday 4th December 2020. Comments should be sent to [email protected] or to The Planning Policy Team, Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale House, Workington, CA14 3YJ.
